Talk at the V&A displaying some of Missoni's gorgeous outfits!

Angela Missoni, Creative Director of the Italian fashion house Missoni, discussed the company’s style and the future of Italian design.

It was a fascinating presentation. She began by talking to us and going through old pictures of how her mother and father; Rosita and Ottavio Missoni started, their first inspirations, their early weaving machines, the prints, colours etc. before slowly moving into her association with the company, being creative director and the direction she wanted to take the company.

It was a really nice, relaxed launch party held at Institute of Contemporary Arts, everyone that was involved should be very proud. I had a fab night!

Me and Li had a brilliant day at the V&A.

The day was specifically designed for styling, fashion, body conscious individuals gaining a better understanding of our material culture and identities.

A swishing event also took place followed by talks given by:

- Justine Picardie former styling director at Vogue now author
- Cerrie Burnell CBBies presenter
- Jason Gardier from Dancing on Ice and This Morning
- Jaana Jatyri CEO of the Trendstop
- Suisie Orbach writer and psychoanalyst
- Reina Lewis from The London College of Fashion

The talks were fab, i really enjoyed the discussion presented by the panel, outlining body image on T.V, how females especially present or are represented by various media platforms, the state of our culture and the philosophical overview of our society.

I am really interested in this arena as i myself wrote my MA thesis looking into this area which i called it 'Are you you?'. CHANGE YOUR WORLD PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITION CLOSING PARTY! New Date!!!!!!

A group of photographers will be displaying their work, inspired by their time volunteering overseas, as part of the Change Your World photo exhibition at the Croydon Clocktower Cafe between 6^th September- 3^rd November 2010. A closing party will be organised on the

29th October 6:30-9pm filled with performers, drinks & nibbles, free goodies, fellow Platform 2 returnees and members from DFID and Christian Aid.

The photographs, all by amateur photographers, were taken during their time on the government funded volunteering programme Platform2 in countries including Ghana, Kenya, Peru, South Africa, India and Nepal.

The exhibition, which has been touring the country, aims to highlight issues such as climate change, aid and sustainability faced by millions of people in the developing world, and features the best images taken by volunteers since Platform2 launched in May 2008.

One of the exhibition’s curators Jack Martin, 21, who volunteered in Ghana, August 2008, said: ‘I hope the photos inspire other young people, showing them how our trips abroad changed our world, and to make them aware of the issues out there in the developing world.

‘We need the younger generation to experience what Platform2 volunteers have, so we can make a change.’

Platform 2 is an programme funded by UKaid from the Department of International Development (DFID), which gives less advantaged young people living in the UK the chance to learn about global development issues such as poverty and climate change while volunteering in developing countries.

The Scandinavia Show in London, an exclusive live fashion show introducing the best of Scandinavian fashion to the UK audience.

Scandinavian fashion boutique Wild Swans hosted the event, sponsored by PANDORA.

I helped back stage as a stylist working with the top Danish stylist Kathrine Aggerthe who has worked as Assistant Womenswear Designer at Matthew Williamson as well as the Fashion Editor for Danish publication Cover. Today she has her own Company CYAN which mainly deals with stylist assignments for magazines (contributing Fashion Editor for ELLE DK), shows, rebranding, campaign making as well as freelance design work for other companies. I assisted Kathrine to dress the models.

Wakeup Campaign presents ‘Swhop shopping’. A social occasion happening for one weekend at the end of August held in Britain’s most influential theatre Battersea Arts Centre. People can bring in there old clothing and exchange them for others, all free!

In the Uk we throw away a staggering 1 million tonnes of clothes a year, 7.5 billion ends up in landfills so don’t throw it away, swhop it!

Wakeup Campaign has teamed up with brands such a People Tree, Izzy Lane, From Somewhere, Junky Styling and more to promote sustainability, recycling and ethical fashion.

Bad times, but the truth of what happens in developing countries such as Ghana!

After my 3rd week in Ghana, i caught Malaria, yep bad times, bad times. before you say anything, yes i had vaccinations, yes i was taking my tablets, yes i sprayed mosquito repellent on myself, yes i slept with a net on and yes i did cover up, but those damn mosquito's still found a way to feast on my blood!

Earlier in my blog i mentioned we had a intensive talk on malaria, how it affects so many individuals and how you can die from it, it is SERIOUS!!! I didn't think i would get it but the doctors in Ghana know what they are doing as it is such a common thing!

The symptoms vary from people to people, you can get diarrhea headaches or have vomiting. I was very lucky, i thought i drunk to much fizzy drink as my stomach was really bloated lol...nope it was malaria.

I was ill for about a week, it was horrible! What really made me upset was the fact that as a Brit, i was seen first, in a way i didn't mind cause i was feeling awful, but at the same time it is unjust if there were other people before me.

Whilst lying down on the hospital bed all i could think about was my family, and how lucky i am and how i really love the NHS right now!

I am telling you we are extremely lucky, it is all relative but nevertheless we are lucky! I couldn't hold my emotions anymore, i was sobbing my eyes out. I was lying down on a stained bed, feces in the cot beside me and a chicken was running around yep you heard right! It doesn't seem right huh?

But i wasn't crying for me cause i know i would be ok, i was crying for the people in the community and i was told by my supervisor Knox, this is the best clinic in the village! Its just not right! How can people live like this, they are human beings...

After a week i was fine, but i sure respected my health after that! Quite a few of us in the group fell ill which was expected, we are Westerners, never lived away from Europe for such a lengthy time, it was to be expected. But my group was amazing, we helped eachother out, looked out for one another and we had good support from our supervisors! :-)

We were all really sad to leave the village. It became part of our home, the community was now our family, it was really difficult but we were so happy that we had the opportunity to volunteer and become part of the community in kasapin, Ghana!

Our project in Kasapin was to build a community center and teach however, we all found it difficult to see rubbish around the streets. The sanitation was a major problem we later found out.

The villagers often burnt the rubbish which could be extremely harmful especially if plastic bags are burnt. Us as a collective decided to try and do something about this, we gathered money ourselves as a group and got the community (the entire village) to help. We approached the chief and discussed what we proposed to do, he got on board and we raised a whopping 60 cedis which is Ghana's currency. To put things into perspective, we earned 15 cedis every week, this amount can feed a family of 4 for a week so this was alot of money!

With this money we constructed wooded poles where the bins could sit into and bought 10 bins to put around the entire village.

We also constructed and designed a welcoming sign for the village which was 10 cedis

You would think this would be a simple process, but oh no, it was really difficult. Raising the money was hard, we had to educate the community as to why this is necessary, constructing the sign was tricky as we would wake up 6am to be at the work site for 7am, work until 11am the have lunch and then teach from 12-3:30pm, this with the heat and exhaustion was difficult indeed, but as a team we worked together! As you can see they are still using chalk and blackboards. The rooms are really cramped, this class room had 37 pupils. The chairs, tables were unsuitable with nails sticking out, and the desk legs falling apart. This is all they have got!

How are they suppose to concentrate? Us Brits have everything, desks, tables, pens, electronic interactive boards yet the pupils are not willing to learn why? it does make you think how ungrateful we are...

This little one is called Porcher, she is 7 years old. My host dad in the village adopted her as her family is extremely poor from another village. She wasn't able to attend school but now thanks to my host dad, Elder Isiah she now attends a comprehensive school in kasapin called LA.

Porcher helps around the house and does the everyday chores. She is a real, strong hero in my eyes, what 7 year old in the UK would do what she does in order to have an education? We are so very lucky! keep up the good work Porcher :-)

Me, Sam and kirsty were lucky enough to go to a rice farm. We were told that there wasn't a rice farm in the kasapin village, but after watching a rice cultivating video, i was really intrigued i asked my host dad and he took us to his friends farm...so much work goes into cultivating rice.

To think we can just go to our local Tesco's or sainsbury's to buy a bag of rice, we dont think what it entails to actually prepare the rice...

We were all allocated a host family, this meant every Thursday we would do everything they done. Mine, Kirsty's and Sam's host family was elder Isiah, he is the chief's elder brother. In African tradition there is what you call a chief and a queen of every village (very much like the Mayor of a town).

My host father was a coco farmer. It would take us an hour to walk to his farm and we would spend about two hours coco farming! Hard work but exhilarating to know how chocolate is born!

We also saw how plantains, bananas, yams, rice are farmed...

My groups project was to build a community center which will consist of a library & post office once completed.

Teaching at schools was part of the program also. I was lucky enough to teach my own profession, art and design! This was difficult at times, but successful i will go into this later, but i believe pictures (in certain circumstances such as this one) describes words better, so take a peek of my time in KASAPIN in fabulous Africa...

Warm, humid beautiful Africa! :-) We arrived in the airport and got greeted by a few of the volunteers from the last group. As there were two groups that went out to Ghana my group (village called Kasapin) and the other group (village called Tapamania) we both got onto the coach and went straight to Accra, the capital of Ghana where we would have an introductory week of our time in Ghana for the 10 weeks.

We discussed issues such as: Malaria, Aids, clinics, the project we will be doing out there and most importantly the customs and language 'Twi'

Hello guys,

So i am back from my epic travels from Ghana, apologies first and for most for not keeping you informed as often as i would have liked with whats been happening, but the Internet connection in Goaso (Bronf Ahafo region in Ghana) was pretty bad (which i have posted in my last blog) which in a way was amazing, i feel really and truly detoxed from the spiders web of the 21st century communication lol!

But what an amazing experience i have had, whenever i talk about Ghana and the Platform 2 project to my friends and family the best i can come up with is: AMAZING, EYE-OPENER, SOUL STRENGTHENING, HAPPY, FULL OF ENERGY, BRILLIANT... it was the best time of my life so far!:-) and i will give a break down what we have done for the 10 weeks we were out there!

Before i do so i want to say a big thank you to the PLATFORM2 people, for firstly allowing me to get chosen on such an amazing adventure, thank you to Department for International Development (DFID), Christian Aid and Bunac for allowing this fantastic opportunity to exist for young individuals like myself to be apart of and express what we have learnt, seen & experienced to others and increase our knowledge on development in developing countries such as Ghana:-)

So let me invite you to my wonderful time in Ghana (Kasapin) where i spent 10 magnificent weeks in a warm, hospitable community and with a group of 16 Brits (people i went out there with) who i can call my new found friends, miss you and love you guys, lets begin...

Platform 2

Platform2 is a global volunteering scheme for 18 to 25 year olds who wouldn't otherwise have the opportunity to visit a developing country and get involved with global issues of injustice and poverty.

I am so thank full that i was chosen to be part of this amazing program. The countries you can go to are, Africa- Ghana, Kenya, South Africa, Asia- India or Nepal South America- Peru. I am going to Ghana, i am so happy about this as i am half Ghanaian. I feel that this trip i will be able to truly see the essence of human civilisation. It will be an eye opener and i hopefully will come back a different person. I am fully educated from both of my parents in the food, the culture, we often have African parties and i have been to Africa before so i feel i have a good basis of what to expect but do i? I will be there for 3 months (well nearly, it is 10 weeks) this is a very long time so i am sure i will learn loads more! I am very excited and i cant wait to go.

I have met my group they seem brilliant, a nice bunch of guys so all i need to do now is pack lol and get everything ready before i go!

Wooh AFRICA here i come! I'm going back to the mother land, the land of human civilisation!!!!

On the 30th of September I attended the Nike pop up space in association with YCN with the guest presenter Kate Moross (illustrator/graphic designer). The talk was quite general, talks on design, what to do after you graduate and of course the variety of projects kate has produced for brands such as Nike, Cadburys and many more.

This talk was inspiring especially for me, I dont class my self as a new graduate as I graduated last year, however, its still very beneficial to here peoples questions and listen to the discussions!

Kate has produced some SHIT HOT!!! work, she has done well for such a young age! Keep it up girl!! To all designers and creatives out there, keep up the hard work, dont think that work will come to you on a plate, sleepless nights are required, but always keep the spark, passion and love alive for your creativity!!!

Orange Rockcorps

This was such a good night!! It was amazing to see Buster, oh my gosh Ludacris was brilliant!!! The concept of the whole event was fantastic and i hope they will continue this from now on! The fact that they held Buster Rhymes in customs was absolutely ridiculous, spoiling a positive, night and message for the people by creating a smoke screen !Why is a good cause always suppressed?!! This needs to end!!

However, the night was brilliant, the variety of music was good and the people was full of positive nature it was magnificent!! Well done Orange, it was such a good event hope it goes on for a long time!!

Guys not sure if you heard about Orange Rockcorps, its a brilliant concept and opportunity for people to see musicians at a concert for free. This year Busta Rhymes has confirmed he will be performing at the Royal Albert Hall on the 26th September 2008! Other artist will be announced later....so whats the brilliant idea behind this i hear you cry, well instead of buying for a ticket to see you fav artist live, you earn it by doing voluntary work around your area! When I heard about this was was so up 4 it!! So you do 4 hours of painting, gardening absolutely any volunteering work......Today I was at Lollard's Adventure Park in Kennington, it was the first Adventure park in the UK, i met loads of cool peeps and did loads of paintings!! Best of all i got my ticket woooo Busta here i come lol!!!

But on a serious note, the idea is fantastic, not only you will receive a ticket to see the most coolest artists around, you are giving back to your community. By doing this you can make some cool new friends, socialise with people from all different walks of life and feel good you have done something other than your self!! Its wicked!!!

Big love Wall.E style for all of the youth workers that do their part for the community cause I don't think they get the recognition they deserve, but today i saw so many things which i didn't know before at i just want to share the love!!!

Nelson Mandela

First thing I would like to say is Happy Birthday Mr Mandela!!! :-)

What an inspiration you have been to not only black people but people from all over the world, different nationalities and from different religions/class. You have been a true visionary that has helped the world gain back a TRUE PERSPECTIVE of what is right and wrong, moral and immoral....Truly amazing person!!!

One thing I do have to address is the statue of Mr Mandela outside the Houses of Parliament. I pass there everyday on my way to work and I have notice how small the statue is compared to the rest of the statues around the square. Some people may think I am being picky or fussy but really this is very symbolic and I amazed how no one has raised the issue before.

Every other statue in the square for example Mr Churchill and a few more are all the same size and on the same level, however Nelson Mandala's statue is not. For me this is not good enough as we are living in the 21st Century where equal rights, racism, prejudice, and discrimination needs to be scraped for good PERMANENTLY!!!

This is purely my observation. I do feel it is unfair as Mr Mandela has fought for Africans and has showed determination, hope, faith, belief and power and this grandeur needs to be rejoiced not dimmed down or suppressed!!!!

Yesterday i was lucky enough to see the film Wall.e at Disney i have to say it was AMAZING!!! :-) Disney. Pixar produced a heartfelt, warm, emotional computer graphic picture which i felt captured everyone's heart and soul in the cinema!

According to John Lasseter, "WALL•E" is the story about the last little robot on Earth. He is a robot that his programming was to help clean up. You see, it's set way in the future. Through consumerism, rampant, unchecked consumerism, the Earth was covered with trash. And to clean up, everyone had to leave Earth and set in place millions of these little robots that went around to clean up the trash and make Earth habitable again. Well, the cleanup program failed with the exception of this one little robot and he's left on Earth doing his duty all alone. But it's not a story about science fiction. It's a love story, because, you see, "WALL•E" falls in love with [Eve], a robot from a probe that comes down to check on Earth, and she's left there to check on and see how things are going and he absolutely falls in love with her."

The humanization of Wall.e and the relationship it has with Eve (Eva as Wall.e calls her in the film) was unbelievable!

The Picture conjures up varied emotions as well as visually portraying issues we have in our society today; Global Warming, Recycling, Waste, Pollution, Obesity, Love and our relationships.

Ok, so I have been to nursery, primary school followed by secondary school, sixth form and then university. I have pretty much been through the academia strata which I have enjoyed as I love studying, it is pleasure I take to really well, as I believe in the power of knowledge.

Now I am in the industry of my field (the arts) and I am a working individual, I am trying to understand everything and anything. This may not make much sense at the moment, but I am writing this and thinking about this in an abstract way. The working lifestyle, working politics, the media, everything! At the moment I feel there is a strange feeling in the world today and I cant quite put my finger on it. Morals and ethics seem to be not incarnated in people’s way of living, which will result in the decadence to the world just as the fall of the Roman Empire!

Ok a bit over the top hear you cry, but really, there is a point as to what I am talking about! The wars around the world, climate change, deceit with partners and friends, a rise in the seven deadly sins, lust, gluttony, vanity, sloth, envy, pride and anger it seems to be rising to boiling point within my generation, even when I was smaller there seemed to be more love in the world! Whether its because I was younger and unimpressionable who knows, but if you read the revelations the enigma seems to be revealed! - This could honestly just be my thoughts at the moment due to the place I currently am at (a transition period in my life) but all I say is observe and watch, don’t be blind but use the light wherever you are! :-)

I feel i need to get some things of my chest. Why do so many people lack respect for others? There has been many times i walk out of my house to go to the local shop or to go to work and by the time i get back, i am already pissed off! People barge, step on your toe, give you funny looks, etc there is no common/mutual respect between one another anymore!! its crazy!!! Wheres the: "Good Morning" or "Hows it goin".....its gone! You say hello and people look at you like your some sort of freak!

Of course you can't let it get you down, it will be a waste of time, you have got better thing to think about, but honestly, how are you suppose to relax and chill with the negativity that surrounds you day in day out!!

People, people, people!! Please take a step back and realise your body language and your manner between one another!

And we say the Western world is civilised! I beg to differ!!!

Ok this was last June, 11th of June to be exact 2007. A couple of months ago...:-P but i just stumbbled across a few pics which i thought i'll put up!! :-)....u can just about see me!!

This was a really inspirational event, espeacially for me and my best friend Marbs!! We coming to the end of Uni and were finishing off our major project....stress, despair, frantic behaviours you name it, we were going through it all. This event by YCN, helped us formulate ideas, hope and determination when apply for design/creative jobs in the industry!

I currently cannot sleep and i go back to work tommorow (well today really, 2.30am) Today i had a conversation with my big bro about the media, and how blurred peoples views are on certain topics which was once seen as right or wrong. But i have always had an issue of what exactly is right or wrong.

I remember studying Philosophy, my teacher Mr Mcarthy always indirectly asked for this sort of answer (right and wrong). But is there an answer? I know, many people know it is wrong to Kill but why is gun violence risen? why does it look cool to certain people? Why is it becoming a way of life now? With so much media exposure, people are slowly going to begin to think it is the norm and it is not!

These are my thoughts, opinions, premises etc on certain things and everytime i think on certain issues that are happening in the world today, more and more time i feel that less morals we have the rise of evil begins to grow and people are beginning to take it in as normal!!! Its crazy!!! Espeacially when we look back in history, from Moses, Nero, Ceasar till now, have human beings or mankind really changed for the better or are we getting worse?

Say Fromage is a digital photobooth where people can take a picture by using a shutter release button, surrounded by a curtain for privacy.

My friend Shaz and i went to the Design Grotto where there were a variety of artists and designers selling some of their work. We got our picture taken from Say Fromage and was placed on their website! Not bad eh!!!

The Portico Rooms at Somerset House held a Christmas event on the 15th-16th of December, where a Design Grotto was opened for family to attend. The Grotto had interactive stalls where visitors can meet the makers of the products they’re selling, workshops and one of a kind or limited edition gifts for under £20

some of the stalls include the coolest artists and designers, 10 Second Christmas Fondle by Beyond the Valley, Crafty Creatures by Donna Wilson, Postability by johnson banks, Craft It Up! by Lady Luck Rules OK, Mrs Kibble’s Olde Sweet Shoppe, Santa Stop Here by Tatty Devine and many more.

It was cool, Quirky gifts, toys, jewelery and loads more!!! I just missed meeting Tatty Devine, damn it!!! Love their jewelery so it would have been fab 2 speak 2 them!

Dj rocking break-beats and African TUNES!!! Wkd!! loved it, absolutely loved it!!

On the 31st of August to the 8th of September, I did work experience for White Lable, who are a do branding events, and marketing services.

Every year they do festivals promoting the number 1 jamaican rum 'Wray & Nephew'. I help transform the empty, spacial area into a fabulous, tropical Rum shackalak paradise!!....you really did think you were in Jamaica!! :-)

I helped with set design, graphics to branding. They were all a lovely bunch of people!!! It was a brilliant week! Thanks guys for letting me take part!!! ;-)

Oh also, doing work experience at a fetival is so cool, cause you can get to see loads of acts :-) so happy 2 see Gilles Peterson again wooh! Lol! &Isac Hayes...what a ledgend! Oh, Im in the crowd somewhere, if you know me try and spot me. I have a big jug of Wray and Newphew, i was rummed up the entire week!!! :-P

Uniqlo have just opened their new flagship store in Oxford Street. Stars such a Dizzee Rascal and Nicolas Hoult (actor from Skins) were a few to mention at the exclusive celebrity marketing Campaign to help Uniqlo reposition themselves and create brand awareness around London.I have always been a big fan of Uniqlo, ever since there store opened in Regent St, i have always liked the minimal, Gap eske, yet very Japanese with an element of clean, streamlined and simplicity. The clothes are made by the latest tech fabrics, which i had no clue until i was reading an article from their promotional magazine.The fact that they have been doing a vast amount for their campaign, its absolutely great, I love Uniqlo and i have felt like this for a few years, my apprehension with this, is that it will be a very well known brand, with more customers. A clan could be formed, very similar to the Topshop clan, everyone wearing the same clothes e.g. Oh where did you get you top from ......oh let me guess Topshop?Thats fashion i suppose, for me its hard trying to create an identity of your own!

I would say i am an ecclectic person when it comes to music. i love absolutely everyhting: R'nB', Soul, Funk, Jazz, Neo Soul, Electro, Drum 'n' Base you name it! There are a couple of artists at the moment which i feel have created a brand (good package) of themselves in style, art, fashion they are true creatives and i take my hat off to them because i feel its all about expression and becoming a visionary. Artists such a Bjork, Roisin Murphy, kanye west, Pharelle Williams just to name a few are people that can create and therefore express their style within their music and fashion. it's brilliant to see and has given me more of a push to also continue to express my self in what i do as only i know what i like and only i can show myself the way i want to, espeacially being a creative!
